The Goal and the Challenge:

Upon their retirement, these homeowners wanted to incorporate a garden onto their small backyard patio area. However, there just wasn't enough space to accommodate the planters they had in mind. The challenge then became shifting expectations so we could utilize the great space in the homeowners' front yard.

The How:

(1)

We considered the changing needs and new lifestyle of the homeowners as we designed a garden that included a sitting area, raised sitting wall for gardening, steppers around and throughout the sloped space, and a ramp to allow for the use of a small wagon to move plants and tools through the garden.

(2)

We incorporated existing plants and a sculpture that had sentimental value to the homeowners by transplanting them to the new garden from other parts of the property. Finally, we made sure that the design was pleasing to view from inside the house at all angles as well as from the traditional exterior view.
